Teacup Chihuahua Long Hair
Maintaining a long haired Chihuahua
The world’s tiniest dog, the teacup Chihuahua comes in two types. One has a short coat and the other is a long haired one suiting cold climatic conditions. While the teacup Chihuahua with the short coat does not require much grooming, maintaining your long haired pet requires some effort on your part. Long haired Chihuahuas are as commonly available as the short coated ones. They can be bought from pet shops or better, they may be adopted from rescue shelters.
Teacup Chihuahuas with a long hair exhibit the same traits as their short coated brothers. They are very sensitive and need to be handled with care. It is advisable to acclimatize them to children and other people at an early age, lest they become loners. It is often found that Chihuahuas are intimidated by children. Being small framed, they can be physically provoked even with a mild gesture. Hence, long haired Teacup Chihuahuas must be handled with care and disciplined carefully. Since they are usually attacked by tracheal infections, they need to be kept away from extreme cold conditions. Also, their fetish for sun makes them prone to sun burns.
Long haired Chihuahuas need regular brushing. They need to be brushed twice a week and washed with a shampoo and a conditioner. Teacup Chihuahuas are very sensitive to chemicals. Make sure that a mild shampoo is used for bathing them. They have more hair on the body than on the head unlike the other breeds. Use a soft brush to brush your tiny pet.
